Leah is a passionate Business Development Manager who represents the Mortgage and Finance Association (MFAA), the peak industry body for finance professionals.
What kind of presenting do you do at work?
In her day to day role, I am often required to present to small groups in a workshop style, medium sized forums as well as to MC larger events or host key note speakers at regional conferences in front of hundreds of members and industry professionals. At a time when the industry is facing intense scrutiny and members are uncertain about their futures, my demeanour and message must reflect the nature of their industry body.
What prompted you to attend Michelle's Persuasive Presentation Skills Masterclass?
I was prompted by nerves to study with Michelle. Although I have a background in theatre and could talk under wet cement, when faced with a room full of my peers and the need to deliver structured content, nerves would overcome me and prevent me from delivering a strong message.
How did Michelle's program change your attitude to presenting in business?
Michelle’s course gave me an awareness of where my nerves come from and practical tools to reduce them as well as a way to ensure I am prepared with a defined outcome for all presentations with a method to get there.
My attitude to presenting in business has totally transformed to where I enjoy the challenge of speaking and consciously using the methods I learnt.
In general, what positive outcomes have you achieved from improving your presentation skills?
The most positive outcome I have achieved is the connection and response by my members. Engagement has substantially increased as members are now more likely to respond to my calls to action. Undertaking Michelle’s course has increased my confidence in a relatively new role.
In what specific ways have your presentation skills improved since completing Michelle's training?
Specifically, my connection with the audience through eye contact, my breathing and pace has improved meaning that I am no longer breathless, too fast and internally focussed. This means that I am calm and confident in delivering complex content.
What were your top three take aways from Michelle's program?
My top three takeaways from Michelle’s course are… the way in which to prepare and structure a persuasive presentation by using the template, minimise nerves by making it not about me and clicking with the audience and strategies to guide question time.
