Kiya Shipley is a proud Kamilaroi and Yorta Yorta woman living and working on Dharug land in Greater Western Sydney. Kiya is passionate about improving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and facilitating change in our community. Kiya works in Community Child Health across a range of different projects. She is currently working as a Project Officer/Aboriginal Population Health Trainee at Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network
Here’s what Kiya said after attending my Persuasive Presentation Skills Masterclass with her colleagues in June 2022:
What kind of presenting do you do at work?
I present both formal and informal presentations on the work I am doing in advisory groups, committee meetings, one-on-ones.
What prompted you to study with Michelle?
I am lucky that Michelle’s masterclass is a part of my training with my current APHTI traineeship.
How did Michelle’s teaching change your attitude to presenting in business? Honestly it changed my whole perspective on presentations!
In general, what positive outcomes have you achieved from improving your presentation skills?
I have achieve so many positive outcomes. I am no longer scared to take opportunities to present. This has opening up so many more job and career opportunities.
In what specific ways have your presentation skills improved since learning with Michelle?
I am much improved at my eye contact with the audience.
I have changed the way I layout my slides – they look much better from the audience’s point of view. In general my presentations flow better.
I am much better at maintain audience attention and engagement which is a great feeling.
What were your top three take-aways from Michelle’s masterclass
1. The Persuasion Blueprint is excellent for structuring a message that achieve my goals.
2. I know how to do direct, connected eye contact which greatly improves my engagement with my stakeholders.
3. I have used many of Michelle’s ‘virtual’ presentation tips when presenting on MS Teams to keep people engaged.
