Monthly Presentation by Julidar

Success Story – Julidar Amiruddin

Julidar is a General Manager at JELD-WEN Indonesia. As a female leader who leads an operation of more than 900 people, Julidar and her strong team of leaders believe that the best way to inspire the team to provide the best contribution to the company is by becoming impressive role models. Julidar says, “It is also important to show your dedication to continuous learning and developing your self and your team so you continue to build a continuous improvement culture in your company.”

What kind of presenting do you do at work?

I present weekly and monthly to the team with various topics that have become “Key Performance Indicators” for our business unit, starting from Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost & Inventory (SQDCI) and I also present on our JEM (JELD-WEN Excellence Model) and our SAP system.  I also do a company presentation to customers and others visitors who visit our factory, including Indonesia’s government officers and JELD-WEN Executive visitors.

What prompted you to study with Michelle?

I had been nominated by the company to represent the Asia operation to attend the 2015 JELD-WEN  Management Development Program (MDP) in Australia. The company invited Michelle Bowden as part of that program to develop nominees’ presentation skills.

How did Michelle's teaching change your attitude to presenting in business?

Michelle’s teaching really built my confidence in presenting in business because she taught me the skills necessary to create and deliver a persuasive and memorable presentation. I still remember the first time I presented to the team after finishing the Management Development Program (MDP) in 2015. I practised the design and framework that I got from Michelle, and I felt so proud of myself when I saw the team were really impressed and influenced by my presentation. Since that time 4 years ago I have continued to use what I learnt from Michelle every single time I do a presentation.

In general, what positive outcomes have you achieved from improving your presentation skills?

Michelle’s Persuasive Presentation Skills Masterclass has helped me to prepare more influential and engaging presentations for any type of audience starting from our production team, to our customers, and even JELD-WEN Executive visitors. This means I can clearly and effectively communicate the message to my relevant audience members and  confidently drive the desired outcome every time. These skills have helped me to position credibly as General Manager and at the same time has helped me influence effectively on important decisions and projects.

In what specific ways have your presentation skills improved since learning with Michelle?

I always try to enjoy my presentation and engage the audience. Thinking through who my audience is, and what are the key messages and what are the participants going to take away from my session prior the presentation helps me to be more confidence, strong and connected with them. I am able to visualise the presentation session running smoothly before I start it and interestingly, the result is generally very similar to the way I visualised it prior to the event.

What were your top three take aways from Michelle's teachings?

  1. Icebreaker is important. You need it as good start and it’s effective for every type of audience.

  2. Know your Audience. Know who they are and what they need to hear as the key take away from your presentation session.

  3. Effective Slides. It is important to prepare clear, simple, memorable, and effective slides.

  4. You have to enjoy your presentation, it is your show, make it fun!
