Saumil is a Corporate Group Financial Controller at JELD-WEN Australasia. He is responsible for the monthly analysis of financial results for the whole Australasian Group comprising approximately 50 business units. Plus he also presents financial data at group level to his US head office. Saumil is also in control of quarterly forecasting, annual budgeting processes, evaluation of capital expenditure requirements, and long-term financial strategy for the entire group.
What did Saumil say after attending Michelle's Persuasive Presentation Skills Masterclass back in 2015?
“I loved the presenter (Michelle Bowden), Michelle’s style of communication, her persuasive skills, material/content of the program, and that it was tailor-made to my requirements. Great to be a part of this program. Learnt a lot. One of the best.”
What type of presenting do you do at work?
I present monthly to my US head office, and to the local executive team here in Australia on the company’s financial results. I also do an annual presentation on group budget and long-term strategy plans, as well as conducting other ad-hoc presentations on different projects, subjects, analysis, and new accounting policies as required.
What prompted you to study with Michelle?
I had been nominated by our CEO to attend the Jeld-Wen Management development program in 2015. And the company invites Michelle Bowden as part of that program to develop nominees’ presentation skills.
How did Michelle's teaching change your attitude to presenting in business?
It really built my confidence because she taught me the skills necessary to create and deliver a persuasive, exceptional presentation. Michelle also gave us the design & framework templates so I have been able to continue using what I learnt.
In general, what positive outcomes have you achieved from improving your presentation skills?
It helped me to prepare more influential and engaging presentations. This means I can communicate the message to relevant audience members and confidently drive the desired outcome as well.
These skills have helped me to position myself well in the executive team and have helped me to influence effectively on all critical decisions and projects.
What were your top take-aways from Michelle's teachings?
1. The importance of an icebreaker – a good start.
2. Homework on audience – know who they are and what they need to hear.
3. Claim your space – in the centre of the stage and command attention.
4. Importance of designing clear, memorable, effective slides.
