Kimberly is a commercially-minded, marketing professional with over 17 years experience, predominantly within the building industry. Excited by digital solutions that elevate the customer experience and drive business efficiencies, Kimberly proudly received a JELD-WEN Excellence Award for Growth and Innovation in 2021 after launching a bespoke online ordering solution that far exceeded revenue targets.
What kind of presenting do you do at work?
I present every day in meetings, updates and conversations. Recently I’ve started using video presentations to connect with our internal teams across the country, keeping them up to date and engaged with what’s happening on the Marketing front.
What prompted you to study with Michelle?
I think strong presentation skills are so important in most careers, not only in terms of formal presenting, also in our general communication in meetings and the like. Michelle came highly recommended by a number of people I work with, and I was lucky enough to be able to learn from her as part of JELD-WEN’s Management Development Program.
How did Michelle’s teaching change your attitude to presenting in business? Michelle’s approach is truly unique. It’s all about being engaging and effective – no more dry, boring presentations that tick a box – it’s all about connecting with your audience and making sure the meeting adds value.
In general, what positive outcomes have you achieved from improving your presentation skills?
Michelle’s guidance and feedback gave me the confidence to use video presentations and put myself out there. The team engagement that has come out of these video updates has been amazing!
In what specific ways have your presentation skills improved since learning with Michelle?
Michelle’s personal feedback and encouragement has been the most valuable to me – understanding what my strengths are and what I need to continue to work on. I think from Michelle’s advice I have been able to improve how I connect with my audience whilst staying true to my own unique style.
What were your top three take-aways from Michelle’s masterclass?
– Slides should add to or enhance what you are saying, ditch all the wording.
– Don’t be afraid to show your face on the screen and tell some relevant personal stories throughout your presentation – because people connect with people.
– Take a breath instead of using filler words (this one is still very much a work in progress for me)!
