Karl Svenoy – Success story

Karl Svenoy is an Asset Specialist- Plumbing & Building in the Format & Development Network at Woolworths.  Karl is a husband and father of two. He explains he is skilled in the delivery of unappreciated dad jokes! At work, Karl is passionate about maintaining and optimising safe and efficient buildings using the latest technology and Facilities Management principles. Karl is always looking to enhance the experience within the built environment.

After Michelle’s Persuasive Presentation Skills Masterclass in May 2022 here’s what Karl had to say:

“I loved the 4Mat and other tools used by top presenters. I loved Michelle’s style and methods. I will use everything from this masterclass.”

What kind of presentation do you do at work?

At Woolworths Facilities Management we are agile, fast paced, and at the forefront of innovation in the Australasian Facilities Management industry. In my role I often need to communicate all day with a variety of stakeholders up and down the line.

My engineering role within the business can often be technical. I am required to present in a way that ensures I deliver a message that can be both understood and enlightening for what can often be “dry”, uninteresting subjects, and where my audience who will often have little understanding of the detail.

What prompted you to study with Michelle?

At Woolworths Facilities Management we are fortunate to have a leadership team that had all experienced the Michelle Bowden Persuasive Presentation Skills Masterclass. Having realised the benefits of the masterclass our leadership team made the decision to invest in up-skilling our support teams. They had all begun turning their new skills into action, and they wanted us to have the same excellent experience. Our leadership realised that through Michelle’s masterclass we would maximise the power of our messages.

How did Michelle’s teaching change your attitude to presenting in business?

Michelle’s teaching changed my attitude to presenting in a profound way. My methods prior to the masterclass were often lacking in the ability to bring the audience along for the journey. Now I know how to implement all three phases of persuasive presenting: analysis, design, and delivery for results.

In general, what positive outcomes have you achieved from improving your presentation skills?

Since attending Michelle’s masterclass, I have achieved improved results when engaging both internal and external business units. This improved engagement has resulted in opportunities to deliver optimal outcomes for the assets I manage. In addition, a number of senior managers have commented on my clarity when speaking to groups.

In what specific ways have your presentation skills improved since learning with Michelle?

The ability to pace and lead in order to build rapport with my audiences is the most important improvement to my presentation skills. I also now use 4Mat to structure my message and people have given me positive feedback that can see I’ve improved my ability to communicate clearly and confidently.

What were your top three take-aways from Michelle’s masterclass?

  1. Thinking like the target audience and utilising the WIIFM formula for motivating people to sit up and listen.
  2. The ability to follow a specific structure to deliver improved presentations that are clear, concise and interesting.
  3. The importance of my body language and vocal variety when presenting. You want everything you do to ‘sell’ the message.
