How else can I build rapport with my audience?

You can also build rapport with your audience members by being as ‘like’ your audience as possible. This is known as ‘pacing’ your audience. It is what many sales people call ‘matching and mirroring’, and is not the same as ‘mimicking’ your audience.

There are many things you can match and mirror so you seem similar to the members of your audience. I’ll list some of them here for you. You can match and mirror:

  • eye contact
  • body language
  • vocal variety
  • language/slang
  • jargon
  • breathing
  • energy
  • dress
  • interests
  • attitudes

If you are hearing the word “no” in your daily conversations then it might be worth considering how well you are pacing your client or audience in all these aspects.
